ASCA is a registered charity that offers general counselling as well as for people wth concerns around their substance use and their famlies. Although based in Rchmond clients do not need to reside in the borough to refer themselves. We offer short, medum amd lomg term therapy and groups support.
If the following criteria are met, please contact ASCA by telephone to arrnage and initial assessment appointment. We onl accept self referrals as this demonstrates commitment to the therapeutic process
We offer one-to-one counselling and group services for:
- People 18 years and over
- People struggling with mild mental health issues (eg anxiety / depression) that are under the current management of a mental health professional and / or GP
- Carers/those affected by someone else's mental health
- People alcohol and/or drug use concerns
- Carers/those affected b someone else's alcohol and/or drug use
- People in recovery from alcohol and/or drug use who are experiencing difficulties in their lives
To be sutable for counselling with our service, perspective clients must be willing and able to commit ie pschologically stable and cognitively capable of attending and engaging n pre-arranged weekl therapy sessons.
Please Note: ASCA is not an emergency service/helpline, cannot offer crisis support and cannot support suicidal clients. In addtion ASCA is unable to offer counselling for clients with specialist mental health issues, illness that interferes with clients' cognitive or refecltie abaility, recent (within 6 months) psychotic episodes, self harming, suicidal clients or those who ahve attmepted suicide within the last 6 months
Other Criteria
- Clients must be registered with a GP and willing to provide GP details
- We are in stable accommodation and willng to provide address and telephone contact number
- Clients are required to attend an intial assessment session (upto 1.5 hours) and a contrbution of £20 towards this assessment.
- Clients must be substance free on the dateof thier assessment and any subsequest counselling
- Clients need to be able to commit to regular, pre-arranged, weekly attendance - 4 sessions initially
- There is limited wheelchair access
- A weekly contrbution will be agreed at assessment based on a clients personal /financial circumastances
- ASCA has a zero-tolerance policy with abusive/violent behaviour, and any such behaviour will be reported

Engagement with ASCA is a smple 3 step process
- Self refer by calling us on our office number 020 8940 1160
- During the call we will take some basic details and, providing our criteria is fully met, you will be invited to attend an in-person assessment (usuallyy within a week). There is a £20 contribution towards this
- At the assement, if appropraite for our service, a counsellor will be allocated and a start date and time will be agreed
We are not a commissoned service and therefore accept contributions which range from £10-£40. Clients suitability is assessed based on our limited resources,. We are unable to support clients with complex needs and therefore a multidisciplnary team would be more appropriate
